8. Symplocos eriostroma Hayata, Icon. Pl. Formosan. 5: 99, fig. 25c. 1915. 薄葉灰木

Evergreen shrubs. Twigs brown, terete; young twigs, green, slender, ridged, glabrous. Terminal buds glabrous or pilose at apex, ovate or subulate with curved apex, margin of scales ciliate. Leaves: blades chartaceous narrowly elliptic or oblong, glaucous beneath, 6-8 cm long, 1-3 cm wide, apex caudate with apiculate tip, base attenuate, margin slightly recurved, crenate with teeth, 1-2 mm apart; both surfaces glabrous; midrib impressed above, prominent beneath, nerves 4-7 pairs meeting in an intramarginal vein, slightly prominent beneath; petioles glabrous, 5-8 mm long. Inflorescence axillary, forming a globose cone in buds, matured inflorescence unknown, but probably a short-pedicelled raceme with caducous bracts and bracteoles, axis densely sericaceous; bracts orbicular to obovate, 4-5 mm long, 3.5-4 mm wide, apex rounded or emarginate with apiculate tip, margin long ciliate, adaxially glabrous, abaxially densely sericaceous; bracteoles lanceolate to linear, 3-3.5 mm long, apex obtuse, adaxially glabrous, abaxially densely sericaceous. Flowers: calyx tube glabrous, sometimes hairy only at the base; calyx limb 5-lobed to the base; calyx lobes ovate to triangular, apex acute or obtuse, glabrous or sometimes hairy at the apical part; corolla deeply 5-lobed, glabrous; stamens ca. 25, connate at base; disk annular, glabrous; ovary 3-locular. Fruits unknown.

Endemic. Only two specimens known.
