2. Viburnum betulifolium Batal.　樺葉莢迷

Shrubs to 4 m tall, deciduous; branchlets glabrous; winter buds ovate, with 2 scales. Leaves broadly ovate to cordate, chartaceous, 4-10 cm long, 3-6 cm broad, apex acute to abruptly caudate, base rounded to cordate, margin mucronate-serrate, upper surface glabrous, dull, lower surface slightly pubescent on nerves; lateral veins ca. 7 per side; stipules small; petiole 1-3 cm long, glabrous or slightly pubescent. Inflorescence a corymbose cyme; peduncle ca. 5 mm long, often 7-rayed. Flowers white; calyx lobes triangular, ca. 0.5 mm long; corolla rotate, ca. 5 mm across. Fruits red, ovoid-globose, ca. 9 mm across.

China. Taiwan in the central ranges, 2,300-3,100 m, mostly at forest edges.

V. betulifolium is variable, charaterized by lax inflorescence composed of slenderly first branchlets usually seven.
