19. Rhododendron taiwanalpinum Ohwi　台灣高山杜鵑

A shrub 1-1.5 m high; branches ascending, the young branchlets slender. Leaves subcoriaceous, ovate-oblong to oblong-lanceolate, 1.5-2 cm long, 0.7- 1.2 cm broad, the apex acute, often mucronulate at tip, the base acute, the margins entire, distinctly revolute sparingly strigose above, densely so beneath, the secondary veins 5-6 per side, subconspicuous; petioles 2-3 mm long, appressed- strigose. Rowers 2-3, terminal; corolla wide-funnelform, pink, spotted with rose 1-1.5 cm long, 1.5-2 cm across, the lobes spreading; stamens 9-10, unequal, the filaments villouson the lower half; ovary grayish pubescent, the style pubescent below.

Endemic. Northern Taiwan, on mountain peaks and in alpine meadows at 2,800-3,000 m.

　　常綠性灌木。葉卵狀長橢圓形至長橢圓狀披針形，葉緣明顯反捲，互生或叢生枝梢。莖頂萌發2～3朵淡紫紅色花，花冠漏斗形，具玫瑰色斑點，5裂，裂片長橢圓形，雄蕊9或10枚，叢生。

　　台灣特有變種，是紅毛杜鵑的變種，兩者花期幾乎一致，植株外觀極為近似，前者葉緣明顯反捲且葉背密披粗毛，後者葉緣略反捲且葉背疏被粗毛。　　

• 族群分布：海拔2200～3000m之北部山區，台北、桃園、新竹、苗栗、南投及花蓮等縣山區均有分布。

• 最佳賞花地點：植株集生於針闊葉混合林緣與玉山箭竹草坡；台14甲24km的鳶峰路段與38km的合歡北峰登山口一帶，是最最容易近距離觀察及拍攝的地點。

• 最佳賞花時間：四至六月。
