3. Hypericum formosanum Maxim. In Bull. 台灣金絲桃
Shrub; branches arching; branchlets 4-lined and flattened when young, soon 2-lined to terete. Leaves sessile; lamina 2-6 cm long, 1.1-2.9 cm broad, ovate to elliptic, apex subacute to rounded, base cuneate to rounded, subcoriaceous, paler beneath, with faint submarginal vein, reticulate venation faint or invisible and only pale glandular dots, ± prominent above. Inflorescence 1-3-flowered, terminal, sometimes with up to 10 pairs of short axillary 1-flowered branches; flowers 2.5-3.5 cm in diam., shallowly concave, in bud ovoid, obtuse to subacute; sepals 7-10 mm long, 1.5-6 mm broad, lanceolate to elliptic or oblanceolate, acute to subacute, margin entire, erect in fruit; petals 10-20 mm long, 8-12 mm broad, obovate, yellow, with amber gland; ovary 3-5(6) mm long, ovoid to subglobose, 5-locular, the 5 styles 1.2-2.5 times as long, completely united. Capsule 8-9 mm long, ca. 6 mm broad, broadly ovoid; seeds 1-2 mm long, with terminal expansion.
Endemic to Taiwan. On well-drained banks or stony areas from sea level to ca. 500 m.

The long sepals easily distinguish H. formosanum from all other Taiwan species with styles completely united, except H. nakamurai.
