Trees rev. ed. 504. f. 466. 1936; Liu, Ill. Nat. Inet. Lign. Pl. Taiwan 272. f. 225. 1960. A medium-sized tree, branchlets terete, light brown. Leaves opposite, coriaceous, oblong, ovate-oblong or ovate-lanceolate, obtuse at apex, acute or attenuate at base, 9-12 cm long, 3.5-4 cm broad, copiously glandular punctate below, margin slightly revolute, midrib impressed above, elevated below, lateral veins about 20 on each side, slender and distinct on both surfaces, confluent near the margin forming submarginal veins; petioles 1-2 cm long. Flowers in short terminal cymes, to 4-5 cm long and 5-6 cm broad, glabrous, pedicels very short, less than 2 mm long; calyx-tube wide campanulate, 3-5 mm long; petals connate into a calyptra; stamens numerous, filaments filiform, 1 mm long, anthers oblong-globose, 4 mm long. Fruit globose, about 2 cm in diameter.
Endemic. On Hengchun Peninsula.
