6. Syzygium paucivenium (Robins.) Merr. 疏脈赤楠

A small tree, branches dense, terete. Leaves coriaceous, obovate or elliptic, rounded or obtuse at apex, obtuse or rounded or very short acuminate at base, 4-5 cm long, 2.5-3 cm broad, margins slightly revolute, midrib elevated on bothe surfaces, lateral veins 5-7 on each side of midrib; petioles short and stout, 2-3 mm long. Flowers in terminal cymes, about 4 cm long and broad, branches opposite, stout, short and dense; flowers sessile; calyx-tube purplish, 5 mm long, 4 mm broad at apex, the limb nearly truncate; petals purple, connate in a calyptra, caducous; stamens numerous, in many series, filaments unequal, white, to 7 mm long; ovary with rather thick wall, 2-celled, several-ovuled; styles 5 mm long. Fruit elliptic or obovoid, 2-3 cm long, 1.5 cm in diameter.

Northern Philippines. In Taiwan, known from Lanyu (Botel Tobago) and Lutao.
