Leaves coriaceous, ovate-oblong, variable in size, 4.5-5 cm long, 2-2.5 cm broad, apex obtuse, base rounded, upper surface tomentose, lower surface brownish or reddish tomentose; petioles 8 mm long. Flowers variable in size, short pedunculate or sessile, fascicled on lateral branches; bracts thick, triangular, tomentose; calyx tube densely tomentose, 2-2.5 mm long, margins denticulate; corolla tube thick, 2.2-3 cm long, lobes linear-lanceolate, glabrous inside, reflexed; anthers 3-4 mm long; ovary glabrous, style 2-2.5 mm long, glabrous.

Endemic. Parasitic on Chamaecyparis spp., Rhododendron morii Hayata, Rhododendron formosanum Hemsl., Litsea morrisonensis Hayata, Alnus formosana (Burk.) Makino, Castanea mollissima Blume, Viburnum odoratissimum Ker., Rubus pirifolius Sm. And Idesia polycarpa Maxim. Median to high mountain areas throughout the island.

This species flowers in summer and early fall and is widespread throughout the the island. Compared to isotypes of the typical phase, the leaves of the Taiwan plants vary as in L. rhododendricolus and L. seraggodostemon in size and form. Certain populations may be conspecific with Taxillus sutchuensis (Lecomte) Danser in mainland China.

毛叶钝果寄生　Taxillus nigrans (Hance) Danser

灌木，高0.5-1.5米；嫩枝、叶、花序和花均密被灰黄色、黄褐色或褐色的叠生星状毛和星状毛；小枝灰褐色或暗黑色，无毛，具散生皮孔。叶对生或互生，革质，长椭圆形、长圆形或长卵形，长6-8.5（-11）厘米，宽3-4（-5）厘米，顶端圆钝或急尖，基部楔形至圆形，上面无毛，干后暗黑色或黄褐色，下面被绒毛；侧脉4-5对，在叶上面稍凸起；叶柄长5-8毫米，被绒毛。总状花序，1-3（-5）个簇生于叶腋或小枝已落叶腋部，具花2朵或3-5朵，密集排列呈伞形，总花梗和花序轴共长2-3（-4）毫米；花梗长1-1.5毫米；苞片三角形，长约1毫米；花红黄色，花托卵球形，长约2毫米；副萼环状，全缘，稍内卷；花冠花蕾时管状，长1.2-1.8厘米，微弯或近直立，冠管稍膨胀，顶部卵球形，裂片4枚，匙形，长4-6毫米，稍开展或反折；花丝长1.5-3毫米，花药长约1.5毫米；花柱线状，柱头头状。果椭圆状，长约7毫米，直径约4毫米，两端圆钝，淡黄色，果皮粗糙，具疏生星状毛。果序梗长3-5毫米；果梗长2-3毫米。花期8-11月，果期翌年4-5月。

产于陕西、四川、云南、贵州、广西、湖北、湖南、江西、福建、台湾。海拔300-1300米山地、丘陵或河谷盆地阔叶林中，寄生于樟树、桑树、油茶或栎属、柳属植物上。模式标本采自湖北宜昌。

本种与日本钝果寄生Taxillus yadoriki Sieb. ex Maxim. 近似；后者生长于日本和朝鲜南部，绒毛呈栗褐色，叶卵圆形，顶端圆钝，花冠长2.4-3厘米，花梗长3-4毫米。
