11. SARCOPYRAMIS Wall. 肉穗野牡丹屬

Herbs, erect or prostrate, glabrous or setose; stems quadrangular. Leaves, thin membranaceous, ovate or lanceolate, serrulate, 3-nerved, petioled. Flowers solitary or in small clusters, pedicelled or nearly sessile, axillary and terrninal, small, rose-purple; bracts foliaceous; calyx-tubes glabrous, obpyramidal, 4-winged, the limbs very short, 4-toothed; petals 4, ovate; stamens 8, equal; anthers oblong, the connectives shortly produced at the base, often spurred behind; ovary half-adnate to the calyx, 4-celled; style filiforrn; ovules very many, the placentas axile. Capsules crowned with four large scales, opening by 4 valves at the top; seeds numerous, obovid, covered with prominent raised points. Monotypic, in Nepal, India, China, the Philippines, Borneo, Java and Malaysia. Two varieties in Taiwan.
