5. Rhododendron kanehirai Wilson　 烏來杜鵑

Shrubs 1-3 m tall, many-branched; young branches densely strigose. Leaves chartaceous, dimorphic, lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, 3-4.5 cm long, 0.7-1 cm broad, apex acute to acuminate, base attenuate, margin entire to sparsely crenate-serrate; petiole 2-4 mm long, densely strigose. Flowers 1-3, terminal; pedicel 5-7 mm long, densely strigose; calyx lobes triangular, densely strigose; corolla pink to purple, funnelform, 3-5 cm across; stamens 10, unequal, filaments slightly villous below; style pilose at base, glabrous apically. Capsules ovoid, 8-10 mm long, pubescent. Endemic, limited to the banks of the Peishi River in the northern part of Taiwan; probably extinct.

　　別稱柳葉杜鵑、金平氏杜鵑。常綠性小灌木。葉披針形至長橢圓狀披針形，互生。莖頂萌發1～3朵桃紅、粉紅、淡紫或紫紅色花，花冠漏斗形，雄蕊10枚，不等長，單出或叢生。

族群分布：原來分布於海拔100～400m，台北縣北勢溪溪谷的裸岩地，以乾溝、鸕鶿潭一帶為主要分布中心；常出現於溪岸河旁之岩石峭壁上，是台灣唯一低海拔河岸杜鵑。

族群現況：自民國七十三年翡翠水庫竣工，將原生育地淹沒後，近年均無野外採集記錄，僅有少數移植栽培種；目前林務局新竹林管處烏來工作站與特有生物中心，持續採取人工復育培植，期望再現昔日風華。

花期：三至五月。
