7. Camellia nokoensis Hayata 能高山茶

Shrub; branches and branchlets slender, grayish brown, pubescent when young; leaf-buds linear-acuminate, densely villous. Leaves thin-coriaceous, lanceolate, 3.5-5 cm long, 1.2-1.5 cm wide, apex caudate-acuminate or acute, obtuse at the summit, base cuneate, margins minutely serrulate, upper surface glabrous except for the hirsute midrib, slightly appressed pilose beneath; petiole 1-2 mm long or subsessile. Flowers axillary; pedicels 4-6 mm long, glabrous; bracteoles 2-3, triangular, 1 mm long; sepals 5, persistent, semiorbicular, 1.5 mm long, glabrous; petals 5-6, connate at base, outer ones ovate-rounded, 6-8 mm in diameter, inner ones obovate-rounded, 10 mm long, 8-9 mm wide, apex rounded or emarginate, glabrous, margins ciliate; stamens numerous, filaments more or less connate at base, 7-10 mm long, sparsely hirsute, anther cordate, 1.5 mm long, apex apiculate; ovary oblong, glabrous; style glabrous, 8-10 mm long, 3-fid at the apex. Fruit globose, 1 cm in diam., mucronate, 2-seeded.

Endemic, in the central part of the island.
