4. Eurya emarginata (Thunb.) Makino 凹葉柃木

Small trees or shrub; branches terete, hirsute, glabrescent with age. Leaves coriaceous, obovate or oblong-obovate, 2-4.5 cm long, 1.2-2 cm wide, glabrous above, the apex rounded emarginate, base acute, margins crenate, revolute, midrib impressed; petioles 1-2 mm long. Flowers axillary, solitary or 2-3 in cluster; pedicels 1-2 mm long; male flowers: sepals 5, semiorbicular, 1.5 mm long, slightly pilose to glabrous; petals 5, ovate, 3 mm long; stamens about 10; female flowers: sepals 5, semiorbicular, 1-1.5 mm long; petals 5, ovate, 2 mm long; ovary subglobose, 1.2 mm long; style 1 mm long, 3-fid. Fruit globose, 3-5 mm in diameter.

Mainland China, Korea, Japan, the Ryukyus and Taiwan. Taiwan, in the northern part and Is. Lanyu.
