17. Ilex rarasanensis Sasaki 拉拉山冬青

An evergreen tree. Winter bud rather glabrous, bud-scales with white pilose along the margin only. Leaves coriaceous or subcoriaceous, shining on the upper side, elliptic or ovate, the apex acuminate or caudate, the base cuneate, the margins entire or loose serrate; petioles 1.5-3 cm long. Inflorescences glabrous, flowers in axillary umbels; peduncle rather slender, about 2 cm long, pedicels 0.5-1 cm long. Drupe red, globose 4-5 mm across; fruiting peduncle 1.5-2.5 cm, pedicels 0.5-1 mm long.

Endemic. In northern parts at medium altitudes (1400-2200 m).
