1. CELASTRUS L. 南藤蛇屬

Deciduous, rarely evergreen shrubs, usually scandent. Leaves alternate, petiolate, entire or serrate, the stipules small. Flowers solitary or in cymes or panicles, axillary or terminal, hermaphroditic, sometimes unisexual; calyx 5-lobed; petals 5, inserted under the disc; stamens 5, with short filaments; disc cupular, concave, entire or crenate; ovary superior, 3-4-celled, the style short, the stigma 3-4-lobed; ovules 2 in each cell. Fruit a capsule, usually yellowish, dehiscent into 3-4 valves; seeds arillate, the endosperm copious. About 31 species in tropical Asia, Australia and North America, 4 species in Taiwan.
