4. RHAMNUS L. 鼠李屬

Shrubs or trees. Leaves alternate, penninerved. Flowers fascicled in the axils of the leaves or disposed in simple or compound racemes, bisexual or polygamous; calyx 4-5-fid, the tube urceolate, the lobes keeled within; petals 4-5 or 0, often flat; stamens 4-5; disc thin, lining the calyx-tube, ovary free, 3-4-celled, narrowed into a 3-4-cleft style. Fruit a berry-like drupe, girt at the base by the small calyx-tube; 2-4-celled, 2-4-seeded, obscurely dehiscent or indehiscent. Seed obovoid, the endosperm fleshy. About 150 species, cosmopolitan; seven species and one variety in Taiwan.
