2a. var. thea. 雀梅藤
A spinescent shrub. Leaves alternate, persistent or subpersistent, ovate or broadly elliptic, 1-5 cm long, 0.6-3 cm broad, obtusish at apex, rounded or subcordate at base, minutely serrulate along the margins, glabrous, green and shining above, green, glabrous or pubescent in vein axils beneath, the midrib and veins subconspicuous on both surfaces, very slender, the lateral nerves about 5-6 per side; petioles 2-3 mm long, glabrous. Inflorescences villose-pubescent, usually in paniculate spikes; flowers nearly sessile. Fruit subglobose, about 5 mm across, purplish black.
India to China and the Philippines. Taiwan, from seashore to mountain slopes of about 2,000 m in thickets.

藤狀或直立灌木；小枝具刺，互生或近對生，褐色，被短柔毛。葉紙質，近對生或互生，通常橢圓形，矩圓形或卵狀橢圓形，稀卵形或近圓形，長1-4.5釐米，寬0.7-2.5釐米，頂端銳尖，鈍或圓形，基部圓形或近心形，邊緣具細鋸齒，上面綠色，無毛，下面淺綠色，無毛或沿脈被柔毛，側脈每邊3-4 (5)條，上面不明顯，下面明顯凸起；葉柄長2-7毫米，被短柔毛。花無梗，黃色，有芳香，通常2-數個簇生排成頂生或腋生疏散穗狀或圓錐狀穗狀花序；花序軸長2-5釐米，被絨毛或密短柔毛；花萼外面被疏柔毛；萼片三角形或三角狀卵形，長約1毫米；花瓣匙形，頂端2淺裂，常內卷，短於萼片；花柱極短，柱頭3淺裂，子房3室，每室具1胚珠。核果近圓球形，直徑約5毫米，成熟時黑色或紫黑色，具1-3分核，味酸；種子扁平，二端微凹。花期7-11月，果期翌年3-5月。
產安徽、江蘇、浙江、江西、福建、臺灣、廣東、廣西、湖南、湖北、四川、雲南。常生於海拔2100米以下的丘陵、山地林下或灌叢中。印度、越南、朝鮮、日本也有分佈。
本種分佈極廣，在葉形及其大小，葉緣及頂端，毛茸和花序等都常多變異，此外，還有下列二變種。據文獻載河北也有分佈。
