3. Grewia piscatorum Hance 小葉捕魚木

An evergreen small tree or shrub, 3 m high or so; branches terete, greyish brown, lenticellate, glabrous; young shoots yellowish-brown, covered with stellate hairs. Leaves chartaceous, small, obtriangular, obovate or rhomboid, 0.6-1.2 cm long, 0.4-0.9 cm wide, rounded or obtuse at apex, tapered-acuminate at base, 3-nerved, serrate-dentate; both surfaces green, scabrous, covered with stellate hairs; nerves distinct below; petioles short, 0.1-0.15 cm long, yellowish-brown, hairy, slightly enlarged at apex; stipules 2, acerose, 0.15 cm long, brown. Umbels solitary, opposite two leaves or occasionally axillary, covered with stellate hairs, yellowish-brown; peduncles straight, slim, 1.0-3.5 mm long, enlarged apex; pedicels 1-4, straight, slim, 3 mm long; bracteoles 2, subulate; buds, 3 mm wide in diameter, longitudinally grooved; sepals 5, elliptic-lanceolate, 4.5-5.5 mm long, 1.5 mm wide, acuminate at apex and base, hairy without, glabrous within; petals 5, oblong-ovate, 1.5-2 mm long, 0.5-0.7 mm wide, glabrous without, glandular within; glands prominently surrounded by tufted, hoary hairs; gonophore short; stamens numerous; filaments slender, 1.0-3.5 mm long; ovary ovoid, ciliate; style slender, 1.3-1.5 mm long, occasionally short; stigma slightly 2-4-lobed; style and stigma hidden among stamens. Fruit drupaceous, 2-4-lobed, the lobes oblate, glabrous, 2-seeded; seeds semiorbicular, 5.0 x 2.5 mm.

Southern China. Taiwan, growing on sea coasts and up to 600 m or more in altitude. Flowering time from May to July.
