4. Hibiscus taiwanensis Hu 山芙蓉

A shrub; stems, petioles and pedicels more or less with strigose-puberulent hairs. Leaves chartaceous, broad-ovate, the apex acute, the base cordate, 7-9 cm long, 3-7-lobed, the lobes broadly triangular, sometimes entire, 7-9-nerved at base; petioles 10-16 cm long, hirsute. Flowers solitary, axillary, the pedicels as long as the petioles or near so; calyx campanulate, stellate-tomentose; corolla subcampanulate, 6-9 cm in diameter, the petals suborbicular, villose, 4-5 cm broad. Capsules about 3.5 cm in diameter, tomentose.

Endemic, in thickets up to 2,000 m.

台湾芙蓉　Hibiscus taiwanensis S. Y. Hu

落叶灌木，高3-8米，全体密被刚毛状糙毛，毛不为星状。叶近圆形，3-5裂，裂片三角形；叶柄长14-17厘米。花单生于枝端叶腋间，花梗长11-13厘米；小苞片8，线形长8-12毫米，宽1.5-2毫米，被长柔毛状糙毛，毛长而不为星状；萼钟状，5裂，裂片三角形，长约10毫米，宽约8毫米，急尖头，被星状短绒毛；花冠近钟形，直径6-9厘米，花瓣近圆形，直径4-5厘米，被长柔毛，基部合生，具髯毛。

产我国台湾省阿里山。

本种标本未见到。据胡秀英称：与木芙蓉近似，不同处在于小枝、叶、叶柄及花梗被长刚毛状糙毛，而后者则密被星状绒毛而不同。
