5. Begonia fenicis Merr. 蘭嶼秋海棠
Succulent glabrous herb with creeping rhizomes. Bract caducous, obovate to oblanceolate, 1.4-1.6 cm long, 0.6-1 cm broad. Leaves obliquely ovate-orbicular, 8-10 cm long, 6-10 cm broad, acute at apex, cordate at base, the margins irregularly dentate, the teeth mucronate, glabrous, palmately 8 to 10 nerved; petioles thickened, 10-15 cm long, 0.4-0.6 cm in diam.; stipules ovate, 7-10 mm long, 7-10 mm broad. Cymes 8 to 10 flowered; peduncles erect, dichotomously branched, 20 cm long. Staminate flowers white, with 4 tepals, the two outers larger, orbicular, 1.2 cm in diameter, the two inners smaller, obovate, 0.8 cm long, 7 mm broad; stamens 7 mm broad, numerous, the anthers oblong, obtuse at apex. Pistillate flowers with 5 tepals; styles 3, bifid, the stigmas bent. Fruit capsular, 1 cm long, 0.5 cm broad, ovate to orbicular-ovate in outline, unequally 3-winged, the wings membraneous, the abaxial wing larger, 0.6-0.9 cm long, 1-1.6 cm broad, the lateral wing narrower, 0.8-1.5 cm long, 0.4-0.6 cm broad. Seeds minute and very numerous.
The Philippines and the Ryukyus. Woodland undergrowths at low altitudes on Lanyu and Lutao; flowering time from May to August. TAITUNG: Lanyu, Lai 6355, Nakahara 1022 (Type of B. kotoensis Hayata TAI!), Huang & Kao 5321, Chang 10371; Lutao, Chang 19762.

多年生無莖草本。根狀莖長圓柱狀，長7-8釐米，直徑約0.8毫米，節密，殘存多數膜質褐色的鱗片。葉均基生，具長柄；葉片兩側極不相等，輪廓卵狀圓形或近圓形，長8-10釐米，寬5.5-7.5釐米；先端急尖，基部深心形，窄側寬約2-3釐米，寬側寬約4釐米，向下延伸約3釐米，邊緣有疏而淺不規則鈍鋸齒，上面深綠色，下面色淡，被小圓形突起，掌狀脈，下麵明顯呈深紫色，窄側3條，寬側5條，近中部呈羽狀；葉柄長7.5-9釐米，粗而扁，兩側邊呈膜質，無毛；托葉卵形，長7-9毫米，無毛。花葶高26-32釐米，細弱，有縱棱，無毛；花白色至粉紅色，有花8-10朵，呈二歧聚傘花序，首次分枝長2-3釐米，二次分枝長1.6-2釐米，均無毛；苞片早落；雄花：花梗長8-10毫米，無毛，花被片4，外輪2枚大，扁圓形，長約10毫米，寬約13毫米，先端圓，內輪2枚小，倒圓形或橢圓形，長約8毫米，寬約6毫米，先端圓鈍；雄蕊多數，整個呈球狀，花絲長0.8-1毫米，花藥長圓形，頂端鈍；雌花：花梗長1.5-2釐米，花被片5，子房卵狀長圓形，無毛，3室，每室胎座具2裂片，花柱3，2裂，柱頭螺旋狀扭曲並帶刺狀乳頭。蒴果下垂，果梗長約2毫米，無毛，輪廓卵球形至圓卵形，長約1釐米，直徑約8毫米，具有不等3翅，一個較大，半圓形，長8-9毫米，邊呈圓形，另2個較小，呈窄新月形，長5-6毫米；種子極多數，小，長圓形，淡褐色。花期5月至8月。
產臺灣（蘭嶼和Lutao）。生於低海拔的雜木林下。模式標本采自蘭嶼。
