3. Trichosanthes laceribracteata Hayata 槭葉括樓
A perennial robust glabrescent vine. Tendrils 2-3-fid. Leaves membranceous to chartaceous, more or less symmetrical, widely ovate to suborbicular, often shallowly to about half-way 3-7-lobed, 5-18 cm long and wide, acuminate to acute at the apex, emarginate to cordate at the base, irregularly serrulate and slightly undulate at the margins with mucronulate-teeth, scabrous above, glabrescent beneath except pubescent veins; petioles 2-10 cm long. Flowers white, bracteolate, staminate racemoses, pistillate solitary; perianth tube 5-6 cm long; calyx segments ovate-lanceolate, 10-15 mm long; corolla lobes obovate, 4-5 cm long. Fruits green with white spots except ten longitudinal green stripes, turning orange-red at maturity, globose to ellipsoid, 5-8 cm in diameter, smooth; seeds compressed, oblong, smooth, marginate.
Central, southern and eastern China, Indo-China, and Japan. Taiwan, in the forests, woods and shrubby places from near sea-level to alt. 2500 m. Flowering May-Aug.
