1. Barthea barthei (Hance) Krass　深山野牡丹

A shrub; branches glabrous. Leaves 3-nerved, ovate or elliptic, caudex at apex, obtuse at base, wavy or very shortly toothed at margin, 7-11 cm long, 2.7-4.4 cm broad, very shortly hairy on both surfaces. Flower solitary or in terminal dichasium; peduncles sessile or subsessile, 1-9 mm long. Calyx tube, glabrous, 9 mm long, 4-lobed at the apex; petals 4, obliquely obovate, 18 mm long; stamens 8, unequal, ?the anther bearing 2 long setose; ovary adnate to the calyx-tube, 4-celled; style filiform. Fruit capsular, ovoid, tetragona, 6-7 mm across, 8-11 mm long.

Southern China and Taiwan; Taiwan throughout the island under forest at altitude 400-2,400 m.
