Evergreen small trees. Twigs grayish brown to dark brown, terete; young twigs green, glabrous, ridged below petioles. Terminal buds subulate and slightly flattened, usually curved at apex, 2-3 mm long, glabrous or sparsely powdery hairy, margin of scale ciliate. Leaves: blades thinly coriaceous, elliptic, apex shortly caudate with apiculate tip, base attenuate, margin slightly recurved, dentate or crenate-serrate with teeth 2-5 mm apart, glabrous, 3-6 cm long, 2-3 cm wide; midrib impressed above, prominent beneath; nerves 4-7 pairs, meeting in an intramarginal vein, prominent beneath; petioles glabrous, 3-7 mm long. Inflorescence an axillary raceme, (2-)3-7-flowered, to 1.5 cm long; axis ridged, aparsely pilose and usually distinctly pilose at bracteal nodes; pedicels 2-5 mm long; bracts caducous, suborbicular, 2 mm long, 2 mm wide, sparsely appressed hairy; bracteoles 2, caducous, keeled, triangular, apex acute, sparsely hairy with ciliate margin, ca. 0.7 mm long. Flowers: calyx tube glabrous, 1.5 mm high, limb 1-2 mm long, lobes valvate, ovate to semi-orbicular, glabrous or slightly hairy, margin ciliolate; corolla 5-7 mm long, deeply 5-lobed, tube ca. 1 mm long, lobes elliptic, margin ciliolate; stamens indistinctly pentadelphous, ca. 50; disk annular, glabrous; style glabrous, 4-5 mm long; ovary 3-locular. Fruits narrowly ampulliform crowned by the persistent calyx lobes, 11-13 mm long excluding calyx lobes, 7-10 mm wide; stone smooth; seed 1, with longitudinally curved embryo.

Endemic, 100-400 m in the southernmost part of the island.
